First thing: Get ready
1 After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them
When opportunity arrives, is too late to be ready. The question is: Am I ready?
What we need to get ready? Fist of all, imagine the big picture, dream of it, because you will never go beyond your own dreams. Second, learn, read, discuss, ask… you have to walk out of your comfort zone. Start walking in the direction of your goals and get trained. Training requires always a continuous effort, persistence and discipline. If you are not ready, opportunity will pass far away from you, and may be you will never notice that.
Second thing: Be strong and courageous:
Joshua 1:6-9 “Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. 7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
To do ministry is some times hard and discouraging. That’s why many people abandon ministry. You have to learn to be courageous to do what is right, no matter people who don’t understand what you are doing complains about.
Note: Courageous is not the absence of fear, it is moving in the presence of fear. Fear paralyzes us, so to be courageous is to continue moving beyond our fear.
Third thing: Sanctify yourself
Joshua 3:5 Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among you.”
I have to question myself: Am I blessable? Am I confessing to God my sins? How strong is my flesh? Do I fantasize about my own mistakes? Do I allow the seed of a wrong idea to grow in my mind?
Fourth thing: To See
Now Jericho was tightly shut up because of the Israelites. No one went out and no one came in. Then the LORD said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men.
